Faculty Member, Development Policy and Practice
Professor of Biotechnology and Development
About
I am Professor of Biotechnology and Development at the Open University and Co-Director of the UK Economic and Social Innogen Research Centre which conducts research into innovation in the life sciences.
I am also Director of Innovation and Technology Policy at RAND Europe where I currently spend the majority of my working life. For more information about RAND Europe and the Innovation and Technology Policy team please see www.rand.org/randeurope
At RAND Europe we have been doing a range of interesting projects about translational research in health and agriculture, capacity building and innovation in the pharmaceutical industry amongst other things.
This webpage concerns my activities with the INNOGEN and the Open University or activities which are joint between INNOGEN and RAND Europe.
INNOGEN has a diverse set of research projects underway, many publications and an ongoing series of seminars and workshops.
We currently have an interesting strand of work entitled 'Technologies for Health Systems Strengthening'. Details, presentations and discussion are available on http://thesys.open.ac.uk
Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information about these workshops or about Innogen and DPP.
I am also working with colleagues in DPP and INNOGEN on 'Below the Radar Innovation' (BRI) and 'Social Technologies' i.e. the mix of cultures and organisations that enable technological innovation. I have posted some papers and slide presentations related to these areas of work and I have just published a paper about global health social technologies in Research Policy.
I am currently a member of the Nuffield Bioethics Council Working Group in Biofuels. We are holding a public consultation on biofuels at the moment and if this is of interest to you please visit the Nuffield Council webpage and read the consultation document.
My web page at http://dpp.open.ac.uk/people/chataway.htm has more details and please go to http://oro.open.ac.uk (and then use the search facility using just my surname) for for an updated list of publications.
