The Open University

Graduate Student, Institute of Educational Technology

MA student (Online and Distance Education)

About

I am a graduate student at The Open University, UK. Having done about half of my undergraduate degree at the OU while living in Berlin, I moved to London in 2005 where I was awarded a BSc (1st class, Hons) in the Social Sciences. I am currently working towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Research Methods and an MA in Online and Distance Education. Holding qualifiations as administrative specialist, auditor and quality manager I have been working with academic, intergovernmental and governmental organisations as well as in specialist medicine, media and the financial sector in Germany and the UK.

The post-graduate programme covers quantitative and qualitative methods with a strong emphasis on ethical issues. In line with my research plans, I have focused on ethnographic research methods and survey research under SPSS as core methods.  My research interests revolve around social media, how users connect, what they learn informally by engaging with technology and with each others, and whether 21st century literacies are a range of skills that need to be confined to online space or if they need to be located in the real world.

Reflections, reviews and progress reports are available on my blog and microblog:

I am a member of the AoIR (Association of Internet Researchers) as well as the AAAI (Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence).
